ASA YACHT CHARTER GREECE
The school has a large selection of teaching yachts that we are happy to charter to our ASA members at a discount rate. All our yachts are Jeanneau yachts from small 32 footers to 4 cabin 49-footers. We can offer them at less expensive weekly rates than the traditional Greek Charter companies from the mainland. The yachts are located on the Island of Poros which is located a short ferry ride from Athens ferry terminal in Piraeus.
The ferry ride is an hour on a fast ferry and as a result, you will save an enormous amount of time.
Let us explain why:-
STARTING YOUR CHARTER IN ATHENS.
- Your charter yacht is likely to be in Athens Alimos Marina. All Greek charter yachts start their trips from this Marina. The Greek Brokers allow you on to your charter yacht by around mid-day. You have to return that yacht back to the marina on the Friday before 5pm at the end of your charter. Essentially you lose 2 days of your 1 week charter in transit time and documentation.
- Your first day’s documentation will take most of the day. The nearest island you can sail to is 26 miles away, and you are not allowed to sail after sunset, so your first night is in the marina in Athens.
- You will most likely leave on the morning of the Sunday and you will transit to your first island, which if you head for the Saronic Islands is a good 4-5 hours sailing, So you immediately lose time on the islands with your first day’s transit.
- At the end of your charter, Greek brokers require you to return back to Athens Alimos marina on the Friday before 6pm. Which means you have to transit back from your last Island. So you lose a second day in the Greek Islands.
THE CONS OF CHARTERING FROM ATHENS MAINLAND.
- YOU WILL LOSE 2 DAYS IN DOCUMENTATION AND TRANSIT TIME BETWEEN THE ISLANDS AND ATHENS.
- PROVISIONING FOR YOUR YACHT IS DIFFICULT IN ATHENS AND MORE EXPENSIVE.
- BROKER DOCUMENTATION CAN TAKE A WHILE.
- BROKER YACHT CHECK-IN AND YACHT INVENTORY SIGN-OFF CAN ALSO TAKE TIME.
THE PRO’S FOR CHARTERING FROM OUR BASE ON POROS ISLAND
- A 1-hour fast ferry ride from Athens ferry port, Pireaus gets you immediately on the Greek Islands.
- After a short walk along the town waterfront, you will be at our base and on your charter yacht.
- Documentation and check-in and inventory are quick and personnel.
- Provisioning is easy with an excellent supermarket 50 meters away from your charter yacht. Local produce is available from nearby mainland Farms.
- Poros Island has many secluded bays that you can easily sail to. Alternatively, the nearest island is 8 miles away so you can leave and stay overnight on your first Greek island.
- There are plenty of bays and areas for you to sail to in the afternoon where you can swim and familiarize yourself with the yacht.
- Poros Island has its own charm and is well worth the time to explore on your first day.
- If you arrive on Saturday by 10 am you will be on your yacht by 12 noon, formalities are fast here as we have no long lines of brokers trying to get paperwork stamped and signed by the Port Police. We are the only show in town!
OUR YACHTS FOR CHARTER
The sailing school offers a range of sailing yachts from 32’ up to 50’ for flotilla and bareboat yacht charter. The Sailing School fleet consists mainly of Jeanneau yachts. Jeanneau have an excellent reputation for building comfortable affordable yachts.
Jeanneau 32i
The Sun Odyssey 32i is a newer evolution of Jeanneau’s well respected Sun Odyssey 32 design. Like the 32, the 32i has a remarkably spacious interior for a 32’ cruising yacht making it as ideal for a family sailing holiday. She provides two cabins and so suits ‘Mum & Dad up front’ with one or two children in the stern cabin. The Sun Odyssey 32i is fast and seaworthy and an excellent choice for comfortable family cruising.
Jeanneau 36i
The Sun Odyssey 36i a newer evolution of the slightly smaller Sun Odyssey 35 and like the 35 provides three cabins and six fully made-up berths. This makes her excellent for a couple wanting more space or a family needing two separate cabins for the children. Alternatively the 36i is excellent for a group of three couples/6 adults.
Jeanneau 409
The Sun Odyssey 409 is a large cruising yacht providing spacious and comfortable accommodation for a family or group of 6 adults. Accommodation is in three cabins providing six permanent berths with two ‘heads’, with the forepeak cabin having the forward heads en-suite. The main cabin can also provide two additional berths.
Jeanneau 33i
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 33i was introduced in late 2011/early 2012 replacing Jeanneau’s earlier 32 & 32i small cruisers. Like the 32 & 32i models the 33i has a remarkably spacious interior for her size, but is slightly larger benefiting from over a foot of additional legnth in comparison to the earlier 32 & 32i models. The 33i makes an ideal yacht for a smaller family providing two double cabins. It therefore permits ‘Mum & Dad up front’ with one or two children sharing the stern cabin or two couples sharing
Jeanneau 389
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 389 is a recent addition to Jeanneau’s range of cruising yachts being released in 2015. Like the 35, 36i and 379 models, the 389 offers 3 double cabins and thanks to the redesigned transom and hull shape has a remarkably spacious interior for her length. The Sun Odyssey 389 follows the interior design of the other new generation ‘xx9’ Sun Odyssey yachts and provides a light and comfortable interior. Like all the Sun Odysseys, the 389 is a fast and seaworthy cruising yacht and an excellent choice for comfortable family cruising
Jeanneau 439
The Sun Odyssey 439 is a large cruising yacht providing spacious and comfortable accommodation for two families or group of 8 or 10 adults. Accommodation is in four cabins providing eight permanent berths with two ‘heads’. The main cabin can also provide two additional berths if required although we do not recommend these other than for children. At 43’ the Sun Odyssey 439 is a spacious four-cabin yacht and consequently provides a lot of internal space. She can be sailed by a couple, although being larger with more sail area, a larger crew allows work to be shared and gives more hands when mooring.
